Molise
is in the "green heart of Europe",
due to its numerous mountains, and it is
wild and unpolluted.
Among the
most typical places are the skiing
site Campitello Matese, the archeological
sites of Aquilonia and Altilia,
many romanic and gothic churches
(especially the Castelpetroso cathedral)
and Termoli, famous for its port and its
beaches.
The local
cuisine can be tasted everywhere,
ranging from cheese, oil and pasta.
There are
many popular traditions:
those of the Majo and Regina
di Maggio, the Carresi; the
Tufara Carnival; the Traglie
in Jelsi; the Misteri in Campobasso;
the 'Ndocce in Agnone; the Faglia
in Oratino; the Smerk in Acquaviva
Collecroci, the Pipe exibition in Scapoli.
It doesn't
lack the artistic handcraft
of the workers of wood, ceramists, weavers,
workers of bored steel, bell ringers like
the ancient papal Foundry Marinelli in Agnone.
Molise is
a fascinating region you can fall in love
with. It is inhabited by warm, easy-going,
peaceful people.
